Recently Arcade Fire played a few shows over in the UK and during an interview with the BBC, lead vocalist Win Butler said some of the songs appearing on the band’s forthcoming third album The Suburbs, sound like “a mix of Depeche Mode meets Neil Young. That’s kind of a weird combo, and if it doesn’t sound weird then I think it’s a success,” he added.
The band’s next three performances are all in Canada starting with the Quebec City Summer Festival on July 12. Butler spoke about the onslaught of amateur footage that has surfaced of the band playing their first few shows in anticipation of the album’s release.
“We can’t really pretend that no one’s ever heard of us before,” he said. “It takes a little bit of getting used to knowing that the first warm-up show you ever play will be everywhere on the internet, and you kind of have to grow up in the public in a lot of ways. But it really feels like we’re at the point in this tour now where we’re playing really great and the new songs feel really vital.” [BBC]
