When Joaquin Phoenix made that unforgettable appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman last year as a reticent scruffy looking actor turned emerging Hip-Hop musician, the public was a little concerned as to what happened to the beloved on-screen star who was nominated for an Oscar for playing Johnny Cash in Walk The Line.
Being a actor it seemed like he was only doing this for a lark, however not all is what it seems as a documentary chronicling Phoenix’s transformation to a Hip-Hop artist will hit US movie theatres this September. It’s called I’m Still Here and according to Reuters, Magnolia Pictures spokesman Matt Cowal said it’s “not a mockumentary by any means. I think the film speaks for itself.” Cowal described it as “a portrait of an artist at a crossroads.”
The film was directed by Phoenix’s brother-in-law Casey Affleck. The Oscar nominated actor said he quit acting because he was bored and that becoming a Hip-Hop artist has always been a true passion of his. Apparently he has been working on an album with producer Sean “Diddy” Combs, however no other details have been released. [Billboard]
