Andy Hummel, founding member of Big Star dies

In March we reported the truly sad passing of Big Star’s Alex Chilton and today The Commercial Appeal is reporting that founding bassist, Andy Hummel has passed away after a long battle with cancer at the age of 59.

Big Star’s drummer and now only surviving original member, Jody Stephens tells the Appeal “He was such an inspiration, I’d known Andy since the 7th grade. What an impact he had on my life. He will be sorely missed.” Hummel is survived by his wife, two sons and daughter.
