Recently Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien appeared on the BBC’s radio program Adam Buxton’s Big Mixtape where he talked with the DJ about the band’s forthcoming album, their eighth following 2007’s In Rainbows.

“Ideally, it’d be great if it came out sometime this year. It’s got to. I hope so,” O’Brien said about when the new album will see the light of day. “We’re at the studio at the moment… we’re in the heart of the record.” He went on to add that it looks as though it will be completed in “a matter of weeks.”

The band raised a few eyebrows on their last release by offering it as pay what you like or nothing at all. Sound wise, the album was seen as a mix between their early alternative rock and the more experimental tunes they incorporated on their Amnesiac and Kid A records.

As for what’s to come on the new release O’Brien said, “It really is genuinely exciting. It’s very different from what we did last time.” Lately members Thom Yorke and drummer Phil Selway have been out supporting their solo albums. You can listen to the full interview between Buxton and O’Brien below along with the guitarist’s mixtape. [CoS]
