Legendary Canadian singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen has finally revealed he will release a new album sometime next year. During his induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York this past weekend, Cohen spoke about his next album and said, “God-willing it will be finished next spring.”

The songs appearing on the forthcoming were written before he embarked on his ongoing world tour in 2008. His last album, Dear Heather was released six years ago. “[There will be] 10 or 11 songs,” he said. “One song was written on tour, the rest were written before.”

For this release, Cohen is producing the record himself, something he has only done previously with help from other producers. Like several of his past albums, the singer admits his inspiration still comes from “Tom Waits, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins” and he expects it sound like “something good, I hope.” [Guardian]
