Recently Eagles of Death Metal bassist Brian O’Connor was diagnosed with cancer and has begun treatment in Los Angeles including having surgery today. After O’Connor announced the news to his family of bands, members of Eagles of Death Metal, Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures and Rage Against The Machine have all mobilized to organize shows to help pay for his medical expenses.

Them Crooked Vultures have announced a gig in London on July 5 at Brixton Academy and a show in Los Angeles is currently in the planning stages.

Currently on tour and playing this year’s NXNE Festival tonight, Eagles of Death Metal will continue their tour in honour of their bassist and have enlisted the help of Dean Fertita from Queens of the Stone Age and the Dead Weather to fill in for the time being.

O’Connor left fans with a message concerning his health:

In regards to my current health situation, with the remarkable support and love from my amazing friends and family, I am receiving the best medical and moral attention one could ask for. I cannot thank everyone enough for their continued support and involvement.  I am excited for my full recovery and look forward to getting back to what I love most, melting face with my bass. I’m feeling great, after all, I am half unicorn. Keep ya posted. Love and gratitude, BOC
