The Pack A.D.’s new found attention couldn’t have come at a more opportune time for drummer Maya Miller and singer/guitarist Becky Black, who make up the band, as their latest album we kill computers heads in a new direction from their previous albums. The band’s first two releases, Tintype and Funeral Mixtape, both released in 2008 certainly follow the bluesy rock tunes Jack and Meg White popularized in the early years of last decade. A year after their debut albums, Miller and Black hit the road and never really returned playing both 157 live shows and the crap out of there music so much that it needed to change.

On we kill computers the band keep their blues influence, as the opening chords of the track “Crazy” is identical to The White Stripes’ “The Hardest Button to Button,” but side towards implementing a more garage rock sound with a hint of melody. Recorded at Hive Studios in British Columbia the band worked with Jesse Gander who was familiar with them from the Funeral Mixtape sessions and who has also worked with Japandroids. Engineer Jim Diamond helped the ladies master the disc putting his past experience with other bluesy/garage rock bands The Detroit Cobras and The Dirtbombs to good use. The result is 13 hard rocking tracks emphasizing the experiencing of life with wild animals instead of computer screens.

It’s only fitting for the band to be on the road and starting this month they will do just that by supporting we kill computers over in Europe and will then make their way back to North America for the start of summer. They’ll be playing shows on the west coast of Canada with fellow Canadians The Sadies and will make an appearance at this year’s NXNE Festival on June 18.
