This morning's new music news; The Elliott Smith Memorial Wall has been plastered with Roger Waters tour ads, Wavves has temporarily settled on a new album title and The Dead Weather have announced a North American tour with one Canadian date.

The Elliott Smith Memorial Wall in downtown Los Angeles, a place fans consider a mecca for them to pay tribute and write thoughts, has been smeared with ads promoting the upcoming Roger Waters tour. Waters is taking Pink Floyd’s The Wall on tour and has hired an ad firm to put up mysterious posters across LA and New York promoting the event in the form of a quote from Dwight Eisenhower. Wavves’ new album is tentatively called King of the Beach and is due out August 3. Singer/guitarist Nathan Williams recorded the album with Jay Reatards former rhythm section, Stephen Pope and Billy Hayes. In an interview with Pitchfork about the new disc Williams said, “It’s clean as a whistle…I don’t think people wanted to hear me make the same record again. I think it would’ve been boring. I didn’t want to do it either.” [Pitchfork]

And The Dead Weather have released details of their upcoming North American tour. Their latest album Sea of Cowards will be released on May 10 and the North American trek kicks off in Washington, DC on July 13. They’ll be making one Canadian stop in Toronto two days later, July 15, for a gig at Sound Academy. [NME]
