A few days ago Los Campesinos! and last night Surfer Blood performed on Last Call with Carson Daly. This string of solid hip bands just might make it worth staying up to watch Daly’s show, but then again we’ll always have good performances available for your viewing pleasure the morning after. Performing the lead song “Floating Vibes” off their debut album Astro Coast at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa, Surfer Blood play a sort ’90s inspired alternative rock with guitar sounds in the verse that remind one of the Smashing Pumpkins track “Drown.”

The band has received lots of acclaim for the album and in a way their name reflects their sound. “I’ve always loved reverby guitars and I realize more and more as people are pointing it out to me that there’s a lot of water imagery,” the band told us. “For a long time I was trying to defend it but I don’t know; I wouldn’t call it surfer music.” They’ll be touring all summer in Europe and North American and have one Canadian stop at NXNE on June 19.
