The buzz around the new Arcade Fire album is palpable. It seems as though the entire indie loving music community is hanging on their every move. Earlier today the band released samples of two tracks from the forthcoming album, and has promised that a single will be released soon. Music fans aren’t the only ones paying close attention though.

In an interview with AUX TV, Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew told Sam Sutherland, “On some emails that I received, it was just like, don’t put your record anywhere around Arcade Fire’s record and I know Mac at Merge and I kind of wrote him and I was like hey… do you guys know when you might be putting a new record out, I’ve got 16 bands sweaten it over here that want to know.”

Broken Social Scene released their fourth studio album, Forgiveness Rock Record on May 4th to excellent critical reception, debuting at number 1 in Canada and 34 in the US. Also released the same day was The New Pornographers hotly anticipated Together, which caused many to jokingly wonder if there had somehow been a ‘secret meeting’ between the bands to release on the same day.

“When I heard the new pornographers were putting out a record I called up Jeff and I said, new pornographers are putting out a record that day, do you think that should really matter?” Drew tells AUX. As things tend to happen, Forgiveness Rock Record leaked before its release, but Drew says that the band was more relieved than anything.

“I called John McIntyre (Tortoise/The Sea And Cake) and I said Johnny the record leaked and there was some silence and he just replied, “It’s about time.”
