The verdict has been revealed for the man who attacked Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher at the Virgin Festival on Toronto Island back in 2008. Daniel Sullivan, from Pickering has been sentenced to 12 months house arrest.

Sullivan ran onstage during the performance of “Morning Glory” and knocked Gallagher over from behind. The guitarist suffered three broken ribs and had to cancel several future gigs in Paris and New York. Despite the pain, Oasis finished their set for the thousands in attendance.

The 48 year-old contractor pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm and was set to hear a victim impact statement read by Gallagher himself, but scheduling difficulties and the threat of a media circus turned down the request. The conditional sentence will allow Sullivan to work and prohibits him from consuming alcohol for 12 months. Sullivan claims he was drunk when the event happened and can’t recall how he got backstage.

In related Oasis news, Liam Gallagher’s new group will release their first single this October and will release a full album in June of next year. Noel has been playing a few solo gigs and has plans to start recording an album of his own.
