The collaboration album between Danger Mouse, Mark ‘Sparklehorse’ Linkous and David Lynch called Dark Night of the Soul will be released on July 13. The disc features 13 songs dedicated to singer/songwriter Vic Chesnutt who was part of the project, but died in December 2009 of an overdose of muscle relaxants. All of the tracks were written by Linkous who committed suicide last month.

The LP was originally due out last year, but a legal dispute prevented it from being released legitimately. “I told Mark [Linkous] that we’d worked things out with EMI back in January and he was very happy that the album was finally going to be released this year,” Danger Mouse said in a statement.  “Mark meant a great deal to a lot of people and I’m grateful to have made music with him and to be a part of his legacy.” [NME]

Originally released last year as a picture book the album features Iggy Pop, Julian Casablancas and Super Furry Animals’ Gruff Rhys. Recently Danger Mouse has worked with the Shins’ James Mercer to form Broken Bells and released a self titled debut album last month. The band will tour North America next month and play two Canadian shows in Vancouver and Toronto.
