This morning's new music news; Black Mountain are putting the finishing touches on their new disc, Metallica and Black Sabbath join for a one off single and Lou Reed makes his directorial debut with a film about his cousin.

Vancouver’s Black Mountain are currently in the studio finishing their third album due out sometime this summer. Tentatively titled Wilderness Heart, this is the band’s first release since 2008’s In the Future, which was nominated for a Polaris Music Prize, a Juno and most Black Sabbath sounding album. In an interview with Exclaim! songwriter Stephen McBean said, “This one’s maybe a bit more folky. There’s some heavy songs on it, but there’s no 18-minute opus on this one.” [Exclaim!]

Metallica and Black Sabbath have joined for a one off joint release. Both bands are contributing a song to a 12-inch vinyl single that will be available on April 17. Only 1000 copies of the single will be made, which features the UNKLE remix of Metallica’s “Frantic” and a version of Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid” with alternate lyrics. [NME]

And Lou Reed made his directorial debut for a short feature film about his 99-year-old cousin Shirley Novick. Titled Red Shirley, Reed composed the soundtrack, which was recorded with his Metal Machine Trio. Reed also appears in the film that will debut on May 20. [Prefix]
