The Rush guitarist opened up about his best drug experience.

Not many beloved classic rock guitarists can say they’re licensed pilots, or have received the Order of Canada, but Alexandar Zivojinovich, aka Alex Lifeson, can. Another thing he can say: he gets high with his wife on ecstasy and listens to Nine Inch Nails.

In a new interview with Team Rock, the longtime Rush guitarist opened about his life and experiences as part of Canada’s most popular musical export. Topics broached in the interview: whether or not Lifeson believes in God (he doesn’t), his greatest regret (not learning more languages), and, oh yeah — taking ecstasy and blaring Tool and Nine Inch Nails.

While discussing his favourite drugs (cannabis takes the #1 spot, naturally) Lifeson recounts a fun evening hanging out with his wife:

I remember doing E one night with my wife, just the two of us. In the living room in our old house we had a huge sound system – 6,000 watts or something. We got dressed up and sat there drinking orange juice and smoking about a thousand cigarettes and we listened to Nine Inch Nails and Tool – all this loud, intense, heavy music. We had such a ball.

Alex Lifeson: living the dorm room dream since 1974.

Lifeson also gives his opinion on the worst songs Rush ever recorded, which in his opinion are “Tai Shan” from 1987 and “Panacea” from 1975. Upon listening…yep, Lifeson’s right.
