A true American hero.

The era before cell phone cameras is one that will be forgotten and erased by history forever no doubt—unless you are a man named Joe Wolfe from Cincinnati, Ohio. or Eddie Vedder.

In 1992, Wolfe attended a Pearl Jam show at a small Cincinnati club called Bogarts. During the band’s time in the city, they went to see Wayne’s World at a local movie theatre, where Wolfe ran into them. He didn’t have an iPhone, obvs, so Vedder promised him to pose for a photo the next time he saw him, surely assuming it would never happen and likely never thinking of it ever again.

UNTIL THIS MONTH.

Wolfe ran into Vedder in Cincinnati again before their recent show at U.S. Bank Arena. He explained the story, and asked for the photo. Vedder’s response? “Fuck off, dude.”

The only thing Vedder remembered from the fateful 1992 night was someone stealing Pearl Jam’s joint at the Bogart’s venue; he assumed it was this guy.

Wolfe says that after this concert, however, Vedder invited him over to shake his hand and take that long-promised photo. (He also says he got an autograph and a guitar pick.) Truly an American Hero.

Listen to Vedder tell the story in this clip, via Diffuser, starting at about the 1:30 mark.
