#Top40Tweets for the week ending February 4th
by Aaron Zorgel
February 4, 2011
At the end of each week, #Top40Tweets lists a cross-section of artists on the current pop charts and puts their tweets on display (along with their current chart number) for your enjoyment/scrutiny. This week, we look at 5 artists on the Billboard Hot 100.
#62: Justin Bieber – Never Say Never
Bieber was only 3 years old when Beavis and Butthead was cancelled. I call bullshit on this endorsement. Alright, alright, here’s the obligatory “Bieber and Butthead” joke:
Worth Following?: Yes. There’s no use trying to avoid him. Never Say Never comes out soon, and it’s better to try to swim with the current rather than against it. #ridethewave
#3: Katy Perry – Firework
Whoa! #Bearcunt is a new one. It’s currently trending, in the dark recesses of my psyche.
Being a Firework is all about being true to who you are. If that means telling a peer to suck it, hey, you gotta be you.
Worth Following?: Yes. Rihanna is actually probably right on this issue. Those hash tags are pretty scandalous, when you consider how young a lot of her fanbase is. But coming from the girl who had too much cleavage for Sesame Street, it just feels so right.
#55: Kanye West – All of the Lights
The weird thing is, I actually kind of agree with him.
Worth Following?: Yes. I feature a tweet from Kanye more often than not on a weekly basis. My new favourite thing is using “H.A.M.” in common conversation. Like, “I’m about to go H.A.M. on this ham sandwich!!!” #canyoutelli’mhungry?
#14: Black Eyed Peas – The Time (Dirty Bit)
In preparation for the BEP spectacular Super Bowl weekend, I wanted to feature some tweets from our favourite mega-ultra producer/rapper/weirdo.
And, a convenient gif of those Twitpics, for the curious-but-lazy:
Weeeeird. I totally believe that Will.I.Am is actually flying the plane.
Worth Following?: Yes. Will.I.Am promises to bring his fans “closer than ever before” by tweeting from the stage of the half-time show. So, get ready for that. #letthetweetsrock
#29: Nelly – Just A Dream
Mythbusters is everyone’s favourite show.
Worth Following?: Yes. I think it’s the first time I’ve said that all 5 Top 40 Twitterers are worth following. Milestones, people. Milestones.
