Evening Hymns brainchild/frontman Jonas Bonetta kept a tour diary for AUX on the first half of their Eurpoean tour with the Wooden Sky. Check out his photos and stories from Germany, France, and Switzerland (September 4 through September 16) below.

1. We flew into Berlin and basically started the tour the next day. Not a lot of time to recover from jetlag and so sleep was at a premium. We were trying to get it wherever we could. Here’s Wyatt deep in an afternoon nap dreaming of the one he loves.

2. I won’t say I’m not embarrassed by our addiction to the internet. When we get to a venue the first thing we do is become zombies checking our emails. Well, Gavin and I are playing quite a bit of Tony Hawk 2 most of the time.

3. Our van is a big van yet not big enough. Seven people’s personal items and then all of our gear makes for a great game of Tetris each night. We’ve refined it a bit but it’s still ridiculous.

4. In Erfurt, Germany we found these trampolines built into the ground in a city park and for an hour bounced around until our legs gave out. Here I do “Karate Kick Trampoline Transfer” for about 2400 points.

5. We had to go shoot some songs for a video blog in Paris and they led us to this beautiful big mirror dome. I got to snap this photo as the sun was starting to make the sky beauty.

7. Up close and personal after-show-drinking on the Seine.

8. Drinking cappuccinos in Paris before we hit the road. Never enough time in that city.

9. We had an off day between Paris and Weinheim and so we planned a day of WWI history. We visited the battlefields in Verdun which made for a pretty dark day but a powerful one. Over 800,000 people killed and they still find remains to this day, and many of them are memorialized in this building.

10. Now when they find new remains they are put into the basement of this building. Creepy and real.

11. Wyatt wandering around the battlefield. The ground hilly from all the shell holes. I think something like 2 million bombs were dropped in the first ten hours of the Battle of Verdun.

12. Now for something lighter. Here is a dog eating a chair. This was after we had dinner at a real nice pizza place beside Jarvis Cocker. This was our big star-studded night out in Paris. Playing David Lynch’s private bar Silencio and eating beside Jarvis Cocker. Oh, and Air was at our show. After that it all went downhill for us. Except for this dog eating the chair. He was the best.

13. Here are 13,000 crosses for only a fraction of the dead. This image was pretty shocking for us considering over 800.000 people were killed and there are so many crosses already. I learned a lot about the war in school but until you actually visit these sites and add some way of quantifying the numbers it’s hard to imagine.

14. I woke up early and went for a solo stroll in Strasbourg and found some nice sites. Last time we were here with Timber Timbre we were in a rush and so just played the show and then had to split. This time I got up and wandered. It’s great being on the road with friends but it’s nice to find some time alone on the road sometimes. I put my headphones on and went exploring.

15. Here’s a photo of the Strasbourg Cathedral. I sat in the pews and listened to Bry Webb‘s record Provider. It’s a beauty and it was a pretty gorgeous setting to soak it up in.

17. I got up early again to go wander Luzern. Sylvie and I had stopped for a sandwich and coffee here in the fall but didn’t get to see much so I was keen to see the downtown area. It’s a beautiful city on the lake and the sun coming up was something. Had the headphones on wandering while all these kids were flying by me on their bikes on the way to school.
