It took Twin Sister, a dreamy-sounding band from Long Island, a couple songs to get used to the sound at La Sala Rossa last night as part of Pop in Montreal. It wasn’t until lead vocalist Andrea Estella untied the mic from the stand did the quintet really start to move, or entrance rather, those in attendance with their beautifully orchestrated arrangements and sweet vocals.

Though the majority of the performance contained softer number off the band’s latest Color Your Life EP, between and near the end of songs they would break out into frenzied instrumentals as if to wake up the crowd or perhaps ensconce them even more in the trance-like state.

This was especially evident in the lead track off the EP entitled “The Other Side of Your Face,” a stirring seven-minute tune that builds slowly, almost begging for Estella’s harmonious voice to enter. Other standout tracks appearing in the set list included “Lady Daydream,” “All Around and Away We Go” and “Meet The Frownies,” which the band recorded back in June for a series called Shaking Through.

It’s always satisfying to go see and band and get lost in the music. Twin Sister have the capability of providing those at their gigs with tunes that are both emotional and instrumentally rewarding. They are a welcome addition to a crew of bands currently on the scene demonstrating their love for dreamy music, yet still manage to stand out.
