Keshia Chanté is back with a new EP, Unbound 1

Last we heard from former 15-year-old wunderkind, 106 & Park co-host, and Michelle Obama interviewer Keshia Chanté, she was saying “F*ck It Tho” and announcing her music free agency.

Now, she’s re-igniting her signature R&B sound with a new EP, Unbound 1, and we’re stoked to premiere it’s third track, “Harmless,” below.

The slow-burning piano chords, pounding percussion and sweeping atmospherics of “Harmless” hearken back to the crowning moments of late-90’s/early-aughts R&B, but the lurking synth bass and Chanté’s soaring vocals lend the track a distinctly modern edge: think Teairra Marí in a zero-gravity chamber.

“What is perceived as harmless, generally is what hurts us the most. Like, ‘have another shot, it’s no big deal!’ or ‘He’s a good guy, what’s the worst that can happen?’ But ultimately, too much of anything can be harmful,” Chanté says of the track.

Unbound 1 features all kinds of collabs across its five tracks, including singer-songwriter Tayla Parx and Drake producer/secret weapon Matthew Burnett. It’s out tomorrow, March 24th.
