Metallica are off to never-never land with James Corden in the new Carpool Karaoke trailer.

Forget Trump: the most incomprehensible thing about our modern age is how videos showing an English comedian badly singing in his car as he drives around Los Angeles became a pop-culture flashpoint. “It’s Adele…and she’s in a car?! This I gotta see!” – an incredibly broad swathe of millennials. It is impressive how quickly he adjusted to driving on the other side of the road, though.

Of course, show any executive worth their bespoke suit a cheap-to-produce YouTube phenomenon with views that number in the millions, and they’ll instantly start planning a series, so now we have a trailer for the Carpool Karaoke series from Apple Music. In it, we see the Grammy-hosting Corden ride around with celebs like Will Smith, Shaquille O’Neal, Chelsea Handler, and John Cena, who’s certainly been shown to have musical chops before. The extended trailer also shows the full lineup of Metallica belting out Rihanna’s “Diamonds” with Billy Eichner before taking their talents to a supermarket deli counter. Odds on at least seven awkward Lars Ulrich moments: 3 to 1.

Well, anything’s better than the Steam-Powered Giraffe version. The show will premiere exclusively on Apple’s streaming service, with 16 episodes slated for release.
