Fans are hoping to install a permanent lightning bolt statue in Bowie's memory.

In the wake of the beloved singer’s death, David Bowie fans are hoping to install a crowdfunded memorial tribute in the form of a giant, red and blue lightning bolt statue embedded in the ground, five streets over from Bowie’s Brixton birthplace at Stansfield Road.

If the Kickstarter campaign reaches its target of £990,000 (approximately $1.6 million CAD), a nine-meter tall statue of the iconic Aladdin Sane lightning bolt will be commissioned from creative consultancy This Ain’t Rock and Roll. According to the project overseers, the statue should take about 6-9 month to build, putting its earliest possible installation date at September 2017.

That’s all contingent, of course, on the statue’s crowdfunding campaign hitting its hefty target. Currently, the memorial statue’s funding is sitting at £30,000, so there’s still quite a ways to go, with 27 days remaining. There’s an impressive array of different tier rewards up for grabs for contributors of all levels, including posters, buttons, records, and replicas of the statue.

So, if you’re so inclined, donate to the campaign here, and watch the trailer below:
