Dan Deacon, rat king.

No stranger to animal-based songwriting, Dan Deacon has now written the soundtrack for a rat-based documentary, called Rat Film.

The documentary explores the squirming, chittering underbelly of Baltimore, entirely through rats’ relationships and connections to the humans that live there. As per the movie’s official synopsis:

‘Rat Film’ is a dazzling new documentary work that uses the rat — as well as the humans who love them, live with them, and kill them — to explore the history of the city of Baltimore. As ‘Rat Film’ demonstrates using a unique blend of poetry and analysis and even a dash of sci-fi, there’s never been a rat problem in Baltimore, it’s always been a people problem.

Deacon’s electronic score is complemented with music from fellow Baltimoreans Ed Schrader’s Music Beat.

Having now picked up a distributor, Rat Film is slated to premiere on the festival circuit this spring. Check out the teaser trailer below:
