Drake paid a surprise visit to Drake University... at 2 in the morning.

What better spot for a visit from Drake than Iowa’s Drake University? That’s what students of the Des Moines institution thought, anyway, when they lobbied to bring Aubrey to campus with a social media campaign centred around the hashtag #BringDraketoDrake. Well, never doubt the power of hashtags, because it worked:

Drake did indeed manage to find time in his busy schedule to stop by the university and visit two on-campus sorority houses (of course he did: wanted to check out the student body) after his Des Moines concert on Tuesday, but only one lucky Bulldog managed to catch any face time with Aubrey. That’s because, in typical superstar fashion, Drake showed up for his visit at 2:30 AM. Well, at least campus security probably got to spot him.

“I think I was the only one that actually saw him and spoke to him which was phenomenal. I can’t believe it happened,” Drake junior Ben Scott said. “We just had a really brief conversation, ‘Hey, do you think anyone is awake? What’s going on?'” he said. “[Everyone else] missed it and I felt so bad for them.”

Sounds like a real enlightening time with a musical idol. “Hey, do you think anyone is awake?”

“I missed him, it was really close,” Drake student president Thalia Anguiano said. “At least I can say Drake was on my campus”.

Oh well, for any university students who are kicking themselves for missing out on an opportunity for a sleepy 5-second conversation with Drake, it least you can take some solace in this excellent example of what marketing professionals call ‘brand synergy’:
