Bruce Springsteen is such a muggle.

We always knew Springsteen was pure magic onstage, but apparently not enough for Warner Bros. and their films about an magic orphan.

In an interview with the BBC on Thursday, The Boss confirmed that he had written a ballad entitled “I’ll Stand By You Always” specifically for the Harry Potter franchise, but it was rejected by the films’ producers.

Speaking with the BBC’s Simon Mayo about his failure, Springsteen said that he was unsure why the Harry Potter braintrust didn’t use his “pretty lovely song,” and that he hopes it might find its place in a future children’s movie.

“It was pretty good,” Springsteen said. “It was a song that I wrote for my eldest son, it was a big ballad that was very uncharacteristic of something I’d sing myself. But it was something that I thought would have fit lovely; at some point I’d like to get it into a children’s movie of some sort.”

Better luck next time, Bruce.

Don’t worry, I’m sure the 90th iteration of Ice Age will come knocking sooner or later. All this begs the real question, though: what would Springsteen’s Patronus be? I’m betting on a bandana’d, wispy Steve Van Zandt double-fisting some Taylor Hams. Obviously, Bruce would be sorted into Gryffindor, that just goes without saying.
