This seems.... redundant.

Hey, remember that time the world found out for sure that the new iPhone 7 had done away with a headphone jack and lost its collective shit? Oh yeah – that was, like, a week ago.

Since then, we’ve learned that Apple will bundle a lightning connector-equipped version of its EarPod headphones with the new iPhone as well as a lightning-to-3.5mm headphone jack adapter so users can still utilise their old headphones. As a result, the screams of “dick move, Apple!” have quieted somewhat. But it would be most non-Apple-esque to not have some nutty shit for us to talk about, so true to form, the tech giant has proudly offered us ‘AirPods.’

What the hell are AirPods? Well, they’re the wireless, Bluetooth-powered version of the EarPod, and the internet has not been kind to them. Firstly, the look of the things dangling from your ears is ludicrous (one article compared it to “wearing a toothbrush in your ear.”) Secondly, the $160 price tag (considering they sound exactly like their underwhelming wired brethren) is striking most as a bit excessive. Sure, they do some cool shit, like switching to mono when only one is worn and summoning Siri with a couple taps, but that ain’t $160 cool.

And of course, there’s the ever-present danger of one AirPod popping out and rolling out the door and under a bush, meatball style. Not to worry – third party supplier Spigen has got you covered. Their cleverly named ‘Never Lose Your AirPods‘ attachment will connect the two earbuds to each other, allowing you to hang them on your person or at least attempt to keep them together. If it sounds like the thing is a goddam wire, that’s because it is.

Sorry, my mistake – it’s flat and ‘tangle-free’ so it’s a strap. And for just $10, you can snag yourself this “compact, lightweight, and extremely durable”…uh…plastic cable? You’re welcome, Apple consumers.
