Apple's newly announced iPhone 7 doesn't have a headphone jack, meaning you'll either need to buy an adapter or a pair of bluetooth headphones.

For years, we’ve heard rumours that Apple had been planning to ditch the headphone jack on its iPhones, and when rumours started circling about the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, those reports picked up steam. Either because the new phone was planned to be Apple’s thinnest yet or because Tim Cook wants to gouge users with a new set of accessories and adapters, tech reporters quickly dug up dirt supporting to the rumour; the Wall Street Journal effectively confirmed it.

But until today, we couldn’t be sure. Unfortunately, it’s true.

When the iPhone 7 hits stores later this fall, it’ll do so with only one external port: Apple’s proprietary Lightning port. That means you’ll need an adapter to use your favourite buds; in fact, even the Apple earbuds that come packaged with the phone will need an adapter.

This is bad for a few reasons. First, it encourages shady dudes on the bus to blast their woofer-distorted Eminem songs. Second, it hampers anyone who might want to charge their phone while listening to something on a train or plane.

The phone looks nice, though, and Apple has finally caught up to Samsung by making it waterproof.

The iPhone 7 is available on September 16th, giving users enough time to start researching bluetooth headphones.
