Our account followed Diarrhea Planet before, and after, they tore Toronto a new one.

Obviously, we’re big fans of Diarrhea Planet, both because their name is utterly ridiculous and because their music lives up to it, so we connected with Dine Alone Records and had the band take over our Instagram account for the day. If you’re wondering why our Stories feed was filled with clips of someone sleeping, two dudes playing rock paper scissors, and a Thin Lizzy soundcheck, now you know. Relive their stories below.

Eventually, it was time for the band to do their thing. And did they ever. The band’s fourth time in town, their Horseshoe Tavern set consisted mostly of newer cuts off this year’s Turn to Gold, which hadn’t yet been released when they last played Toronto (a 2am set during Canadian Music Week), and a few older classics. After the set, there were a few takeaways: Namely, that there is perhaps no band that has as much fun on stage as these guys. Having four guitarists affords them a lot of leeway, whether it’s Emmett Miller’s pick-less theatrics, Jordan Smith’s power-stances or Evan Bird’s… everything — he spends much of the show making faces and mugging for fans’ cameras, but also made use of his wireless receiver with an encore stroll through the crowd.

We could go on, ending this with a poignant blurb about Diarrhea Planet’s youthful energy, pulling it into a joke about their name and wrapping it up with a clichéd sentiment. But we all know the saying: A picture is worth a thousand words, and we’ve got 10 of them.

Words by Tyler Munro.
