Life after CBC's q is going fine for Shad.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Shad would no longer be hosting CBC’s q.

While reviews of his time at q were mixed, a lot of people were bummed that the affable rapper would no longer be hosting the popular radio show. Thankfully, it seems his career as an interviewer is anything but over: HBO Canada has released a trailer for its new series Hip-Hop Evolution and it’s hosted by none other than Shadrach Kabango.

Set to premiere on September 4, Hip-Hop Evolution follows Shad as he travels to the Bronx and Harlem to speak with hip-hop originators like Grandmaster Flash, Kool Herc, Big Daddy Kane and Def Jam mogul Russel Simmons.

The fourth and final episode explores the birth of the West Coast hip-hop scene, and features gangster rap pioneers Ice-T and members of N.W.A.

Originally premiering at the Hot Docs festival earlier this year, the series comes courtesy of Banger Films, the minds behind Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey.

With Shad’s encyclopedic knowledge of and passion for the art form, there’s little doubt this will be a big ‘W’ for the rapper (who’s quickly shaping up to be somewhat of a Renaissance Man).

But it turns out that his tenure as a CBC interviewer isn’t necessarily over either. Executive Director of CBC Radio English Services Susan Marjetti noted that “long-form interviewing, even for seasoned broadcasters, can be a real challenge” but revealed that the broadcaster is “exploring a new show with Shad that plays to his strengths and passion for music.”
