Industrial titans Ministry famously named one of their albums after the ill-advised town slogan.

Ministry’s Al Jourgensen must be spinning in his custom-made coffin bed.

After 58 years, the Saskatchewan town of Tisdale has opted to drop its official slogan, “land of rape and honey.”

No, sadly the small town of 3200 in northeastern Saskatchewan isn’t an enclave of industrial music superfans: apparently the slogan, which inspired a 1988 Ministry album of the same name, is meant to refer to rapeseed, ie: where canola oil comes from. Oh, now I get it. Of course! Rapeseed, aka canola, aka the money seed. That definitely should’ve been the first thing that came to mind.

According to the town’s economic director, Sean Wallace, complaints about the slogan have dogged the town throughout the years, and the town’s leadership finally decided to bow to public pressure and change it.

The new slogan? “Opportunity Grows Here.”

Hmm…don’t think I’ve heard of that Ministry album.

“The ‘Opportunity Grows Here’ brand will be a prominent component as Tisdale markets to companies identified as potential investors,” a press release from the town says. Potential investors? They could’ve at least gone with ‘Tisdale: Every Day Is Halloween,’ kept the rivetheads, and gotten the lucrative Nightmare Before Christmas fan market as a bonus.
