Frank Ocean releases new album (no, not that one)

It's not what fans expected, but it's enough to tide them over.

After weeks (months? years?) of teasing, Frank Ocean has finally released a new album.

No, not that one.

Two weeks ago, Frank Ocean went live on BoysDontCry.co. “This was it,” thought Ocean fans. But they should have known better. What this was, it turns out, was something else entirely. The largely instrumental live stream, which saw Ocean building… something, ended without an album (though we did get Bob Vila’s commentary on it, for some reason).

Last night, Ocean went live again. “This was it,” thought Ocean fans, again. They were wrong, again. On this latest live stream of Tool Time with Frank, Ocean’s music now had words. And a staircase. And once his steps were built, a 45 minute visual album called Endless was the result.

It is decidedly not Boys Don’t Cry, the album Ocean had originally promised to release last summer. Instead, it’s an exercise in patience; saving its best songs for the end, Endless is 18 songs (and an accompanying extended music video) that should hopefully tied fans over until the real release, which circulating rumours say is finally happening this weekend.

For now, it’s enough. The wait for new Frank Ocean songs has, fittingly, felt endless. Until we get the real thing, however, Endless is enough. Either that, or it’s branded De Walt content.

At the very least, it’s keeping Boys (and girls) from Crying. If Boys Don’t Cry doesn’t drop soon, however, they just might.

You can watch Endless on Apple Music, assuming you have an account. If you don’t, and you’re hyped on Boys Don’t Cry, it might be trial time — expect the album to stay exclusive on there for at least a week, if and when it finally comes out.

UPDATE: Apparently, if a new album drops this weekend, it won’t be called Boys Don’t Cry. Alrighty then!
