This is worse than the time he dumped his feces on unsuspecting tourists. Hell, it's even worse than his music.

Updated below with a statement from Dreaming Tree Wines. A happy ending, it seems, for a shitty situation

The prevailing wisdom is that despite his chill vibe and comfy, blousy t-shirts, Dave Matthews is kind of an insufferable turd. And in regards to one incident, we mean that literally.

But if you can believe it, the “Crash Into Me” singer has outdone himself this time. In Toronto, the singer’s gauche, presumably disgusting wine company has vandalized a memorial bench in hipster haven Trinity Bellwoods Park, replacing a plaque in memory of actor, comic, and musician Dennis Frey with the kind of logo you would expect, well… on a Dave Matthews t-shirt..

News of the incident spread quickly on Facebook, where reviews on the Dreaming Tree Wine page admonished Matthews (and his partner, Sean McKenzie) for disgracing a monument to a beloved member of the community.

“Where there used to be a bench in honor of my dead partner there is now a bench honoring your corporate logo,” read one post. “You rock.”

Another longer and more scathing post ripped into the wine with such vigour that we felt it necessary to present it below, in full:

Thanks for vandalizing my dead friend’s memorial in Toronto’s Trinity Bellwoods Park. Although he did have a keen sense of humour (but no great love for shite wine, mind you), he’d probably still be fairly unimpressed that you ripped out his memorial plaque and replaced it with your rather unprepossessing corporate logo (see photo). What’s next for your ad campaign? Get some frat boys drunk on this plonk you’re trafficking and then go piss on his grave? That would be just as adorable.

While it is of course unlikely that Matthews himself was directly behind this, it’s worth remembering that he once dumped (pun intended) raw sewage on hundreds of Chicago sightseers when his tour bus emptied its septic tank a few years back.

Dave Matthews: When he’s not literally shitting on people, he’s desecrating their memories.
