Pantera reflect on Dimebag Darrell's death after the first of two Orlando attacks.

In 2004, former Pantera guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott was shot and killed while performing with his new band Damageplan. Three other people were also fatally wounded before a police officer shot and killed the gunman.

Following the murder of one-time The Voice contestant Christina Grimmie Friday night, who was shot after a performance at an Orlando, Florida venue while signing autographs, a message has been posted to Pantera’s Facebook page demanding that club owners and promoters do more to prevent the same thing happening to other artists.

While it’s unclear who is posting on behalf of the now defunct Texas metal band, Abbott’s former bandmates were vocal about the need for increased security at the time of the shooting, with his brother and injured crew members filing suit against the Alrosa Villa nightclub where he was killed.

Tragically, Grimmie’s killing was just one of two shootings at an Orlando venue over the weekend. The attack at the Pulse LGBTQ nightclub claimed the lives of 50 people, making it the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.
