Classical for number crunching, pop for data entry, and EDM for proofreading.

In news that will have employees triumphantly snatching their confiscated headphones back from HR, a study has shown that listening to music improves work performance.

Not only did 9 out of 10 participants perform better while listening to one of four different types of music, it was shown that the most mistakes overall were made by those who listened to no music at all.

Here’s a quote from Dr. David Lewis, a neuropsychologist and chairman of the research company Mindlab International to throw down on your bosses desk tomorrow:

“The take-home message is that music is a very powerful management tool if you want to increase not only the efficiency of your workforce but also their mental state, their emotional state – they’re going to become more positive about the work.”

Bam. However, Mindlab went one step further and determined which genres of music most greatly improved different types of jobs. And if you’re tempted to complain because you don’t like the genre that’s related to your work type – quit your whining and just be glad science is getting your music back, fancypants. Besides, you’ll be using headphones, right? Mislabel your Megadeth directory as ‘Mozart’ in case your boss walks by and go to town.
