The Tragically Hip will embark on a summer tour 'for Gord, and for all of us.'

In the early morning hours of May 24th, The Tragically Hip made an announcement of “some very tough news” that left fans stunned. Lead singer and lyricist Gord Downie was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in December. Courage, my word.

In the words of The Hip, the 52-year-old singer “has been fighting hard” and will continue to do what he does best with his bandmates of over 30 years as they set off on a summer tour. They state that “this feels like the right thing to do now, for Gord, and for all of us. What we in The Hip receive, each time we play together, is a connection; with each other; with music and it’s magic; and during the shows, a special connection with all of you, our incredible fans.”

The CBC reports that more details will be released by their band manager at a press conference at Toronto’s Sunnybrook Hospital at 11 a.m. EST.
