He is accused of stealing over $4.7 million to invest in illegal marijuana grow-ops.

In the ’90s, Alanis Morissette dropped one of the biggest albums of all time which revolved around an unfaithful lover (who may or may not have been Dave Coulier). More than 20 years later, Alanis is now accusing another partner of being a cheater, and the story’s even more unbelievable than Uncle Joey being a playa.

On Tuesday, the singer filed a suit against her former business manager Jonathan Schwartz and his firm GSO Business Management, claiming Schwartz stole at least $4.7 million… to invest in a weed growing business.

After seven years as Morissette’s business manager, Schwartz was fired for failing to respond to multiple requests for information about her finances. When her new manager delved into her accounts, he found that in addition to using $8 million from investment accounts to cover her expenses despite being clearly directed to use current income, dude had one hand in her pocket (sorry/not sorry) the whole time, enacting at least 116 cash transfers from Morissette’s accounts to his own, totalling over $4.7 million.

His excuse? The money was an investment in one or more illegal marijuana grow-ops. I get his logic – Alanis has gone hardcore-hippie these days. Still, you probably should have come up with a children’s meditation retreat or something, buddy.

Anyway, Alanis is mad pissed and asking for $15 million in damages. But she’s not the only one wanting a piece of Schwartz. Get this; his co-defendant and former employers GSO Business Management are also suing him, seeking to judicially expel Schwartz from the firm, obtain punitive damages, and have him to repay a $588,000 advance he was given by the company. Ironically (in the correct sense of the word – take note, Alanis), it turns out that Schwartz the business manager is absolute shit at business.

“[GSO’s] investigation revealed that Mr. Schwartz was burning through money to sustain a lavish lifestyle, including a $50,000 vacation to Bora Bora and an outstanding gambling debt of $75,000 at a Casino in the Bahamas. He also owes the U.S. government a substantial sum for unpaid taxes.”

While life sucks super hard for Schwartz right now, this could be a huge win for the rest of us. If we’re lucky, pissed-off-about-losing-$5-million Alanis will drop another Jagged Little Pill screamer as catharsis. Fingers crossed!
