The Hollywood Vampires are your dad's hard rock cover band if they were both kinds of loaded.

If you watched the Grammys this year, it may well have been your first time hearing about the band The Hollywood Vampires.

A motley crew of tattooed and makeup wearing hard rock legends and lovers (but thankfully no members of Mötley Crüe), the supergroup consists of Alice Cooper on vocals, Duff McKagen and Matt Sorum of Guns N’ Roses on bass and drums, respectively, Aerosmith’s Joe Perry on lead guitar, Alice Cooper rhythm guitarist Tommy Henriksen and… Johnny Depp?

Actually, Depp has been an active musician throughout his acting career, although, perhaps learning from the ridicule heaped on other actor/musicians like Keanu Reeves has mostly stuck to low key guest spots, jumping on stage with his buddy Marilyn Manson and a short lived, under-the-radar collaboration with Butthole Surfer’s Gibby Haynes.

In fact, Depp even said in so many words that he hates the idea of actors capitalizing on their success and starting bands. Well, it seems the now 52-year-old has softened his stance a little and is going on tour with one of the weirdest supergroups ever.

Apparently, the group derives its name from a drinking club started by Cooper in the 1970s whose members included Ringo Starr and Keith Moon. We can only assume, though, that they’re aware of how fitting the name is considering Cooper, McKagen and Perry should clearly be dead by now (and look like they already are).

As for their sound? Well, they’re pretty much your dad’s hard rock cover band – if a couple of the guys were really good musicians, most were considered legends, and all of them were loaded. Just like your dad’s band, though, it’s all pretty meh. Observe Bruno Mars’ meme-worthy non-plussed reaction to their tribute to Lemmy at the Grammys:

But hey, it’s not at all terrible and the dudes are having fun instead of having to deal with their batshit crazy bandmates (you know which ones I’m talking about), so more power to ’em.

Of course, when your band members include one of the world’s biggest movie stars and a bunch of rock legends, you don’t play the local Fionn MacCools on Monday nights. In addition to the Grammys, The Hollywood Vampires have already played LA’s famous Roxy Theatre and to close to 100,000 people at 2015’s Rock in Rio.

This tour, scheduled as to not mess with the G’N’R reunion, stretches from late May to the end of July. Want to catch them north of the border? Perhaps unsurprisingly, their two dates adhere to another of your dad’s favourites: casino gigs. They’ll be hitting up Orillia’s Casino Rama on the 8th of July and Niagara’s Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino on the 9th.
