Nothing says St. Patrick's Day like a story about a bar called Shenanigans.

Surprise! It turns out cops might not be too nutty about the track “Fuck tha Police” by N.W.A. soundtracking their appearance at an overstuffed nightclub. And if you’re a DJ in Westfield, Massachusetts found guilty of doing this, there might be a fine coming your way. (Of course, the fine might be worth it just so you can say you did it.)

Masslive reports that Kashawn Harris (a.k.a. DJ Boogy) was hit with a $50 fine for disorderly conduct for allegedly busting out the hip-hop classic when police tried to shut down a party at Shenanigans Pub (which sounds like a House of Pain chain establishment) for having 350 people crammed into a venue with a 160-person capacity.

According to the fuzz, the DJ put on “Fuck tha Police” (which is not a song about making love to the police) after they asked him to turn down the loud music. Here’s what officer Juanita Mejias noted in her report:

“I believed at that time the combination of alcohol, the excessive amount of people in the bar and the song that the DJ chose to play at that time was an intentional act by the DJ to incite the crowd which showed a reckless disregard for public safety.”

DJ Boogy, who provides the soundtrack to gigs like weddings and club parties, says the police misread the situation and is unhappy that the cops suggested he was trying to incite the crowd.

“I had no intention of inciting a riot,” he said. “It was just college kids having fun. For them to even think I was trying to start riots was frustrating for me. That’s not my kind of background, that’s not where I come from.”

This might just be us editorializing, but we have to imagine at least one officer was just happy that they were at a bar that didn’t play “Closing Time” as the exit music.
