Montreal's Coeur de Pirate celebrates Pokemon's 20th anniversary with a beautiful piano cover.

No one can question the gamer cred of Montreal’s Cœur de Pirate: it’s not every Francophone songstress who composes the soundtrack to delightful indie RPGs, after all.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original Japanese release of Pokémon Red and Green Versions on February 27th, the singer also known as Béatrice Martin shared a sombre piano and vocal cover of the theme song from the original Pokémon animated TV show. The animal-enslaving adventures of Ash Ketchum and pals never sounded so austerely beautiful.

“It’s nothing serious, it’s really funny, but it’s just an homage to it all,” Béatrice says in a Facebook post linking to her work. Hopefully this means we’ll get a Team Rocket piano cover before the year is out.
