At the Drive-In's founding guitarist leaves just days before a world tour.

Well, that was fast. Two months after reuniting and announcing a world tour, At The Drive-In have already lost a founding member (again), just a few short days before they were scheduled to high-kick off things off in skinny jeans in Santa Ana, California.

The (re-)departure of ATDI guitarist/Sparta leader Jim Ward was announced in a Facebook post by the band, who said that Ward “would not be joining them on future journeys”:

The news of Ward decamping once more might not come as a surprise to anyone paying attention to the reunification of the post-hardcore heroes (not to mention, anyone who’s passingly familiar with the ATDI and Mars Volta history): In an interview with the El Paso Times back in November 2015, Ward seemed “surprised” at the news the band was getting back together, and somewhat less than enthused about the possibility of joining his former bandmates onstage once again.

Take heart, though, At the Drive-In superfans: there’s always a “Non-Zero Possibility” that Ward will break his “Pattern Against User” and re-join the band again at a later date. Though, I wouldn’t bet on it the next time you head In/Casino/Out.
