He gets $65 for blood donations per week to feed a vinyl addiction.

So you think you love vinyl? You think you have a problem because you have to tell your friends to stop you from going into record stores and blowing half of your rent money? I hate to tell you, but that’s pure amateur hour. You want to see a real vinyl addict? One obsessive collector is selling his own blood to pay for records.

Reddit user ‘ElvisIsATimeLord’ shared the following helpful tip in the ‘Vinyl’ subreddit:

I donate plasma to finance my vinyl addiction. My local plasma donation center pays $65 a week and that allows me to buy pretty much all the vinyl I want. Plus, I’m helping my fellow man. Plasma is used to make vaccines, medications, to help burn victims, and other uses I’m sure that I am missing.

Now, as messed up as it sounds, donating blood for money is a known practice amongst people in dire straits struggling to make ends meet. This is definitely the first time we’ve heard of someone going to these lengths to feed a music addiction, though.

ElvisIsATimeLord has even started a blog to review the vinyl bought with his blood money. Check out Blood For Vinyl.

Hopefully ElvisIsATimeLord’s buddies have the foresight to perform an intervention before next Record Store Day. Things could get squirrelly.
