The 66-year-old singer forgot which city he was in.

In case you needed any more proof that Cleveland isn’t yet at the level of an Ohio mecca like a Canton or a Westerville, just look at the indignity inflicted upon it earlier this week by one Bruce Springsteen.

Two songs into his set in the Forest City on February 23rd, The Boss shouted out “Party noises, Pittsburgh!” to the sold-out crowd before quickly realizing his mistake and trying to cover by adding “..and Cleveland, too!”

Pretty smooth recovery for a 66-year-old, actually. Springsteen hadn’t been in Pittsburgh since January 16th, when his River Tour touched down in Steeler Nation, so he doesn’t even have the excuse that he was just there. Just admit it Bruce: we all would rather be in Pittsburgh than risk being tainted by the Cleveland curse.

Rule to live by: never trust that a city actually rocks if its slogan has to try and convince you (especially not if it reminds you of Drew Carey).

Will Cleveland Springsteen fans, and the city as a whole, ever be able to recover their civic pride after an insult of this magnitude? No… no they won’t.
