Bring Me The Horizon insist it wasn't because Coldplay stole their album art.

Fresh off their Super Bowl halftime performance, Coldplay’s Chris Martin and the rest of his brothers-in-purple tees were attending the NME Awards in London, where they were honoured with something called the “Godlike Genius Award.”

The godlike geniuses’ night was somewhat marred though, when the singer of metalcore maniacs Bring Me The Horizon pushed past Martin to clamber atop Coldplay’s table and smash everything on it during a rendition of their easy-listening anthem “Happy Song”:

“And I… will try… to fix… you” – Chris Martin, crooning to a shattered champagne glass.

Bring Me The Horizon frontman Oli Sykes insisted the table crashing wasn’t “a dirty protest” due to his earlier claims about Coldplay stealing his band’s  Sempiturnal album art for their own A Head Full of Dreams, both of which incorporate a similar ‘flower of life’ design. Sykes said that he was “aiming for Yoko Ono” and that he only jumped on the table at Martin’s request:

“Did it look intentional? It wasn’t. He said he wanted to hear us so I brought it as close as possible. My sound just wasn’t right that’s why I went onto Chris Martin’s table.”

Bring Me The Horizon went on to win the “Innovation Award”, which makes sense: formerly standard, unscripted rock ‘n’ roll antics are pretty innovative these days, after all.

Coldplay were seemingly unfazed by the incident, not to mention all that smashed champagne. I’m guessing it’s hard to get worked up about some wasted alcohol when you’re a Godlike Genius.
