Two holiday favourites together at last!

After Sigur Rós appeared on Game of Thrones, members of the Icelandic post-rock band have now one-upped that feat.

Bassist Georg Hólm and drummer Orri Dyrason have confirmed that they helped produce the 2014 cinematic classic The Three Dogateers Save Christmas. What’s it about? Um, a little thing called SAVING CHRISTMAS. The film (which is just called The Three Dogateers on IMDB) features both talking dogs and a talking Dean Cain in a family holiday adventure. Here’s the trailer.

Dyrason told The Reykjavík Grapevine that their initial dream was to have Chevy Chase star in the picture, but that never came to be. Even though he confesses the film is “horrible,” it’s clear the process wasn’t just a carefree lark.

“We were completely serious about the production,” said Dyrason. “It was an investment. We did it to make some money. It’s not as if we place any kind of meaning or importance in that film. We didn’t foster any artistic ambitions or anything like that. It’s a talking dog movie, you know. We just wanted to make some money, and we worked hard to meet our goal.”

The desire to turn the project into a success had Dyrason gaining a new perspective on the financial demands of record labels.

“Our role was basically supplying the money, funding the production,” he shared. “We did influence the outcome a little… at one point we got excited about this Back To The Future style ending… Anyway, it’s all about the finance. Gaining that perspective was so healthy for a guy like me, who has only ever sat at the other end of the table. All of the sudden, I could sort of understand record company people. Those guys just want money, they don’t mean anything by anything—they don’t care about music—they just want to make money. And that’s great, because we need record companies that make money so people like me can focus on making music.”

A sequel titled Jurassic Bark is currently in production and that sound you just heard was Matt Groening’s legal team waking up to sirens going off.
