The fury awakens for Canadian cosplayers and Star Wars fans.

In our effort to give the small independent film Star Wars: The Force Awakens as much of the spotlight as possible before its release this week, we’ve got another chunklet of geek news about the series to share with you and your stylist.

Quebec’s Guzzo Cinemas knows that their theatres are going to packed with sweatily excited fans drinking in the picture and they want said fans to know that masks and lightsabers are prohibited in their cinema parlours. It’s a decree the chain’s bigwig concedes is a bummer, but he’s sticking with it.

“Call me the party pooper” said Guzzo Cinemas CEO Vincenzo Guzzo in a chat with CBC. “People are not identifiable… You can imagine some guy with a Chewbacca mask who’s not just going to walk in normally. He’s going to pretend he’s Chewbacca. And he may yell every once in awhile and he’s going to scare people.”

Guzzo also noted that people attending the movie are there for Star Wars and not a costume ball. To be fair, the best costume balls are the ones where you can spray butterlike topping all over your fancypants ensemble.

If you’ve got your heart set on dressing up for Star Wars: The Force Awakens at a Guzzo Cinemas location, you’re still allowed to make that your wardrobe. The CEO says patrons are allowed entry as long as they don’t cover their faces or bring in something resembling a weapon.

A number of U.S. theatre chains are also cracking down on what can and cannot be worn to the winter blockbuster. Companies like AMC, Cinemark, and Bow Tie Cinemas have all laid out their own policies of what’s a-okay to bring into their multiplexes.
