Masked guitar institution Los Straitjackets take on Vince Guaraldi's "Linus and Lucy."

Nashville’s own luchador-masked instrumental guitar maniacs Los Straitjackets are no strangers to holiday music – they performed seasonal jams on Late Night With Conan O’Brien every year in the ’90s, and even released their own album of Christmas covers, ‘Tis The Season For Los Straitjackets, in 2002.

This year, they’re releasing their version of Vince Guaraldi’s immortal Peanuts Christmas theme, “Linus and Lucy”, a song we’ve all tried to plink out on the piano at one point or another, then immediately quit when we realized it’s pretty hard.

Not so for the Straitjackets however, who deservedly have quite the rep (and quite the fanbase) for their insane musical chops. Their cover of Guaraldi’s Christmas classic is dosed with the Jackets’ trademark surf guitar, and as a bonus for the checkered porkpie hat set, takes more upstrokes than Michael Phelps:

The “Linus and Lucy” cover is part of a new Los Straitjackets LP with Nick Lowe set for release for Record Store Day’s Black Friday this week.
