The Tragically Hip frontman recently sold it for about $265,000 below asking price.

You’d expect the Tragically Hip’s frontman to live somewhere near the hundredth meridian, or at the very least in Bobcaygeon, but sadly that’s not the case. Turns out all this time Gord Downie’s been puttering about, absentmindedly humming Canadiana-focused lyrics (“Hmm… needs a Bobby Orr reference”) to himself in a three-story Riverdale home in east Toronto… which he just sold. Well, now you can move to somewhere you name-check in your songs, ya bald bullshitter! JK, love ya Downie.

Downie sold the home for about $265,000 below his original asking price, landing at $2,230,000 according to this real estate blog. It’s likely he could have gotten as much as he wanted had buyers been informed they’d be living in the home of the man who wrote “Fifty Mission Cap.” However, Downie decided to protect his privacy and let the house sell on its own merits, leading to this delightful video from the realtor extolling the home’s suitability for what I’m assuming are two tech startup CEOs:

Where will Downie live next? Smart money says New Orleans, post-sinking.
