The '80s Clash-influenced punk band featured two current MPs.

According to ThreeHundredEight, the Davenport riding is currently showing a 67 per cent probability of going Liberal after tonight’s election. Not the greatest news for current Davenport NDP MP Andrew Cash, who could be looking for new employment in about, oh, 10 hours, but at least he could fall back on his extensive musical background should Liberal candidate Julie Dzerowicz manage to win.

Cash’s old band, L’Étranger, were a Clash-influenced punk act formed in 1980 in Toronto, consisting of Cash, Charlie Angus, Peter Duffin, and Bruce Meikle. Their best-known song, the anti-apartheid single “One People,” was one of the first independent videos to ever get airplay on MuchMusic:

L’Étranger member Charlie Angus is also currently an NDP MP for the Timmins-James Bay riding (ThreeHundredEight probability: 82 per cent NDP). Angus left the group to form his own alternative country band, Grievous Angels, in 1986. Since it seems Angus will likely be holding onto his seat, it looks like we won’t be getting a L’Étranger reunion anytime soon, barring riding-level polling being massively wrong. And let’s be honest, when has that ever happened before?
