A voting loophole might get her added to Nintendo's popular fighting game.

Say what you will about Nintendo and the legions of manchildren it’s responsible for spawning, but you gotta love a company whose success hinges on a franchise about an Italian tradesperson’s experience with hallucinogens and deep hatred of turtles. RIM can’t say that!

In later years, Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. series has become one of the game company’s most popular, and it’s easy to see why: who doesn’t wanna play a fighting game where you can make Luigi face off against Donkey Kong, or fight beloved characters like Palutena(?) or uh, Greninja?

Nintendo is now holding a public vote to decide who should be joining the Smash Bros. roster for the current edition of the franchise, and a surprising contender has entered the fray: Britney Spears. Now, Nintendo’s rules state that only characters that have appeared in an official Nintendo game are eligible for selection… but of course we all remember the 2002 classic Britney’s Dance Beat for Gameboy Advance, don’t we? Solid 53 on Metacritic!

The Britney Smash campaign has been gaining support on Tumblr, but it remains to be seen if the pop star would allow her likeness to be used in-game even if she came out on top in the vote. It’s probably somewhat of a long shot, I can’t imagine Britney would want to open herself up to hilarious screencaps like this. Still, we can dream.

“Dude! Stop spamming the Oops I Did It Again combo! You know it’s overpowered! F this, I’m switching to Drake” – Smash players in the future, hopefully. Anyway, I just saw the dog from Duck Hunt is already included in the game, so please excuse me while I finally live out my personal fantasy of beating the hell out of that chortling little bastard.
