Feist, Dan Mangan, The Sadies and more announce cross-country anti-Conservative events.

Stars singer Torquil Campbell has never shied away from his political beliefs, particularly those criticizing Stephen Harper. Now, the outspoken orch-rocker has rallied a group of musician friends to perform in a series of cross-country concerts aiming to inspire young voters to oust the Conservative government.

The Imagine Oct 20th series includes four shows scheduled so far. On Sept. 26 in Winnipeg, electronic artist Smoki Tigr (responsible for the song “Harpersux”, posted above) will host a ‘back alley party’ featuring a live mural painting by Kenneth Lavallee plus performances by Ultra Mega and DJ Hunnicutt. On Sept. 30 in Toronto, 918 Bathurst will see sets from Campbell, Feist, The Sadies, Lowell, Dave Bidini, Donovan Woods, Sarah Slean, The Queer Songbook Orchestra, and a whole bunch more. Oct. 1 in Vancouver will feature an equally packed show at the Biltmore Cabaret featuring Dan Mangan, Veda Hille, Geoff Berner, Tariq Hussain, and others. Finally, a second Vancouver event takes place Oct. 3 with the Shit Harper Did comedy crew, Charlie Demers, Rachel Tetrault, and more.

A statement on the Imagine Oct 20th explains that the NDP has the best chance of forming a new government but also supports strategic voting. It also encourages followers to plan events in their own cities and get the word out however they can. We’ll give them the final word: “In a country where the majority of voters did not vote for the current government, the Conservatives can only benefit from electoral apathy.”
