Check out the similarities in "Take Me To Church" and "How Come You Never Go There."

In the latest edition of his Pop Music Masterclass video series deconstructing hit songs, Leslie Feist’s key-tinkling collaborator Chilly Gonzales has pointed out some striking similarities between Hozier’s “Take Me To Church” and Feist’s “How Come You Never Go There.”

“This sounds quite familiar to me, I must say,” says Gonzales on the “spiritual sound” of the Irish artist’s near-ubiquitous 2013 single. “This very slow and noble triple time and those sad chords. I think I know what it might be.”

Moving on to Feist’s 2011 single (which includes him on piano) he sarcastically describes the musical parallels as “a crazy coincidence” before the final mic drop.

“I’m being told by the research staff that Feist’s track came out well over a year before Hozier’s. Doesn’t look so good, does it? ‘Take Me To Church’? Maybe Feist should take him to court.”
